New Winter Beanies From Meridian Energy

A huge thank you to Meridian Energy for the lovely warm beanies that we were given on the last day of term two. They arrived at the perfect time for our Gold Award Assembly which was held outside.

Room 6 was very excited and grateful when they received the beanies. These will be nice and warm to wear when going to and from school and when playing outside during break times.

Thank you Meridian Energy.
We love our beanies!

Cross Country Photos and Reflections

Kia ora
Your child has two days of Home and Learning this week so they will continue to practise the same spelling words. If your child has not completed last week's sheet, this is a great time for them to catch up with this. I hope you all have had a relaxing break and being able to do some fun creative activities inside over the long weekend.
See you all on Wednesday.

We were really proud of the way our students participated in this event.
                                          Go Karawha!

Friendly Reminders

Friendly Reminders

Kiaora to all      🍂

Friday 2nd June and Tuesday 6th June are Teacher Only Days at Linwood North School.

This Week's PB4L Focus at Linwood North School is:
Be A Learner By Learning Through Others.

We will know we can achieve this when:

  • We ask questions like What? How? and Why?
  • We listen and notice what other learners are doing.

Home and Learning for Week 5
Here is a copy of our Home and Learning for this week. This is in your child's Home and Learning Book and it is due back to school this Thursday. Please encourage your child to complete this and to return their book to school.
Thank you for your support.

Learning To Swim

Kia ora

The first two weeks have flown by quickly with going to Aquagym each day for swimming lessons. You can certainly see the progress the children have made by the end of the two weeks. They have had a great time being in the water and learning new skills to help them become more confident swimmers. The children are able to discuss the different things they are learning at Aquagym and why they are learning to become better swimmers and how to be safe in and around water. They have also written Recounts about their swimming.

Pool Time!

End Of Term Get Together

End of Term Get Together for Room 6 & 7
Children from Room 6 & 7 had a lovely time together celebrating Term One. We were also sadly goodbye to Susie (R6) and Abigail (R7) but we wish them all the best on their new learning journey.
We were very proud of the way children showed Respect and Responsibility towards themselves and others while eating and socialising with each other during this time.

Welcome To Term Two

Term Two begins on Monday 1st May.

Upcoming Events:

For the first two weeks we have Aquagym, Monday to Friday. Room Six leave school at 10:30 and will be in the pool by 11:00am. If you are able to come and watch your child's swimming lessons, we look forward to seeing you at the pool. It is a requirement from Aquagym that all children wear a swimming cap before entering the pool. Please make sure that your child has all their swimming gear and that it is named.

Gold Award Assembly
Due to the weather at the end of last term, the Gold Award Assembly had to be postponed. This will now take place on Friday 5th May at 2:00pm. Be great to see you there!

I am looking forward to starting the new term and working with you to help your child grow throughout their learning journey in 2017.

Sharing Our Learning

Room 6 have been busy writing Animal Reports about the Monarch Butterfly. You will see a sample of your child's writing about the Monarch Butterfly in their Learning Journal. These will come home on Friday (7th April).  The children wrote about the Monarch's size, colour, diet, habitat and its predators. We found out a lot of interesting facts about the butterfly through Youtube and reading books. Enjoy reading about the Monarch Butterfly.

Learning Through Health

Our Health Topic has been about Building Our Self Esteem. We used a t-shirt template to design our own t-shirt with a saying on the front that showed others one thing we believed about ourselves.

Reminders

  • The Year 3 & 4s are off to Linfield Park this Wednesday (5 April) to enjoy a day of sport activities.
  • Athletics Day is this Friday (7 April). We look forward to seeing you there.
  • Learning Journals will come home this Friday. Hope you enjoy looking through these with your child. Please make sure these are returned to school before the term break.
Wishing you a great week from Room 6.

Learning Inside and Outside of the Classroom.

Celebrations

Congratulations to Mitchell for receiving his Gold Award in our Assembly last Friday. All the children who received their Gold Award at the Assembly looked very proud of themselves, rightly so! Mitchell got his photo taken with his Nana and now gets to wear his badge as recognition of all his focused learning both inside and outside of the classroom.  Well done Mitchell!

Principal's Award

Congratulations to Kera for her fabulous writing about Autumn.
Room 6 and 7 were using their senses to write what Autumn looks like, smells like, feels like, sounds like and tastes like.
Some of the descriptions that children in Room 6 wrote about Autumn:

Autumn feels like:
  •  crunchy leaves under our feet
  • a rough carpet of leaves covering the ground.
Autumn looks like:
  • leaves changing colours from green to red, brown and red.
  • trees looking bare without their leaves.

Autumn smells like:
  • smoke coming out of chimneys
  • hot milo cooling down in the cup.

Learning Outside The Classroom

Room 6 are really enjoying learning new games through Kiwisport. Each fortnight Nate teaches children at Linwood North School a range of skills to help them when playing a variety of sporting games.

Have a great week.

Discovery Time and Action Stations

Discovery Time with Rooms 6 & 7

We have just had our second week of Discovery Time. The children are really enjoying themselves. Some of the activities that we have had so far are:
  • Outside - Skipping, Parachute Games, Hoola-Hoops, Ball Kicking and Hockey.

  • Inside - Biscuit Icing, Drawing, Playdough Creations, Popcorn Making and Board Games.
Activities will vary from week to week. It is great to see the children working well in teams and best of all having fun during this time. Here are some of our reflections from the end of the day when we reflected on Discovery Time.
"I can't wait until Discovery Time next week."
                  (Kera)
" Icing Biscuits is so much fun. I liked using the coloured sprinkles and the                           chocolate sprinkles."
                  (Justine)
" It was fun making a dragon when I was using the playdough with my friends."                   (Corbin)

Action Stations - 8:30am-8:55am.

The children are arriving at school and settling into their Action Stations well. These activities range from Cars, Board Games, Buddy or Team Challenges, Whiteboards and Big Books and Poems.
