News from Karawha – Newsletter contribution from Karawha.

The Karawha Team have had an exciting start to Term 4. Last term, as a team, we worked hard to do our best at all times and as a result we experienced some awesome successes. We learnt how to write a narrative and completed stories that we wrote collaboratively with our class (Room 4 and 5) and our writing buddies (Room 6 and 7). For this writing, in Room 6 and 7, we used the Story Bird app. Now, you may think, working with a buddy would be easy however we have discovered that it’s not as easy as you may imagine.  Firstly, we had to collaboratively answer those big ‘story making questions’ like ‘what characters were going to be in our story, where was the story going to happen, what would be the Big Problem in the story and how were we going to solve the problem? All of Room 6 and 7 students now have their own Story Bird user name and password, so they can use this at home much like they do for Reading Eggs and Mathletics. Room 4 and 5 students did some fabulous character descriptions based on traditional Fairy Tales. Feel free to pop in to our classes before and after school to admire some of this work.
On Monday we began our Term 4 Swimming lessons at Aquagym. We were very impressed with how organised and prepared our tamariki were for their lessons, especially Room 5 who needed to be at school and on the bus by 8.30 am. We would love to see you down at the pool during our lessons this week or next.
